Colère divine

Worlds quiver, sometimes collapse, always resist.

Colère divine is an exhibition about the phenomena that connect sound and matter, featuring works and installations by Yann Leguay and Gaëtan Rusquet, Marina Rosenfeld, Christian Sebille and the duo comma (Clémence Choquet and Mickaël Gamio, 2022 laureates of the CEAAC exchange residency programme in Stuttgart).

The strength of resonance is also its weakness. A sound can vibrate to the point of shattering the elements, buts its propagation can also be curbed, dampened, insulated. Between these two extremes lies an unstable and shifting frontier, a place of endless speculation. How do we slow or even stop a vibration, in order to make it observable? Can a vibration thus contained – in a symbolic fringe between life and death – be handled gingerly like silk or glass? Can its evident vulnerability release the trembling of the world?

The expression Colère divine (divine wrath) used as the title of the exhibition is borrowed from comma’s reading of the writings of Philastrius, an Italian bishop of the 4^th century A.D., who in his Liber de hæresibus (Book of Heresies) rejected any explanation for earthquakes not lying in the emanation of divine will.
