RESIDENCY PROGRAM CLOSED
The Agence culturelle Grand Est/Frac Alsace and the Langage Plus modern Art centre in Alma(Quebec) have been developing a residency program since 2004 between Alsace and Quebec, in order to promote young contemporary creation within their Region. Now opened to artists from Grand Est, this project connects the new Region with Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean in order to support artists’ mobility between the two continents.
This residency program is part of a collaboration with the CEAAC and the Centre Sagamie. It is supported by the city of Alma, l’Office franco-québécois pour la jeunesse, the Ministry of Culture/DRAC Grand Est, as well as the Region Grand Est in France.
Selected artists benefit from an accommodation, open studios, residency grants (allowance for living and production), as well as a round-trip airfare. An exhibition at the Espace international of the CEAAC, organised by one of the program’s partner usually highlights artists’ researches at the end of their residency.
Last but not least, an individual publication is produced by the Frac Alsace, as part of a pre-existing collection.

From 2003 to 2013, the CEAAC has been leading a residency program with the collaboration of the Lao French Institute.
Initially created within the French Embassy as a linguistic service, it was launched on January the 14th, 1994, in the current premises of the CENTRE DE LA LANGUE FRANÇAISE (CENTRE OF FRENCH LANGUAGE) by Monsieur Jacques Chirac, mayor of Paris at the time. In January 1995, it was converted into a financially independent establishment, in the form of a “Cultural centre and linguistic cooperation”. Since then, it has become a French Institute (Institut Français) and still maintains its role as a stakeholder of French Cultural and Academic Cooperation in Laos.
This residency in Laos was aimed at confirmed artists in the field of painting or engraving, it was integrating a workshop with students from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Vientiane, Luang Prabang, or Savannakhet. It usually took place in autumn each year, lasting two to four months.

By 2009, SeMA Nanji Residency had firmly established itself as a creative studio by providing creative spaces and working conditions to domestic young artists. Starting in 2010, it began to take the form of a program by subdividing its activities into ‘exhibition’, ‘research and academics’, and ‘exchange’, and supporting and operating them systematically. Since 2012, it has been developing into an international residential organization by operating various programs.
