     Parc de Wesserling

    68470 Commune of Husseren-Wesserling

Katsuhito Nishikawa installed five identical twisted sculptures in the Park of Wesserling Castle : “Aqua” (‘‘water’’ in Latin) is located in the old fountains of the landscape garden.

The sculpture resembles a ‘‘whirlpool formed on the surface of the water’’ (Philippe Weiss). A strange correspondance operates between the art object in concrete, which is manufactured and reproduced, and the surrounding vegetation : it is not just a contrast between artefact and nature. Because, in this case, nature is a landscape garden, where arithmetic organization subjugates plant growth. But also because Aqua relates to cristals or perfectly geometric organic elements. Philippe Weiss speaks of ‘‘fossils’’ or ‘‘shells’’ – vestiges of a prehistoric aquatic life.

5 sculptures in white concrete approximately 50 cm high, 90 cm in diameter and weighing 300 kg
